in/on the tree?

以下哪一句正確?
1. The bird is in the tree.
2. The bird is on the tree.

就中文的文法而言, 我們會說「那隻小鳥在樹上」,
但英文的正確文法是 "The bird is in the tree.",
除非是生長在樹上的果子, 我們才會用 "on",
如 "The apples are on the tree"。
