in/on the bus?

以下哪一句正確?
1. I am in the bus.
2. I am on the bus.

很多人都分不清,究竟 ' in' 和 'on' 分別適用於哪些交通工具呢?
其實大致有兩種分類:

有一派用大型和小型交通工具來分類:
大型的用 'on', 小型的用 'in'

另一派則用可站立和不可站立來分類:
可站立的用 'on', 不可站立的用 'in'

無論是哪種分類, 結果都是:
on: the bus/the train/the ferry/the plane
in: the car/the taxi/the van

至於 'the bicycle', 我們應該用 'on the bicycle',
雖然 'the bicycle' 似乎不適用於以上兩種分類,
但也不難找出答案,
因為我們是坐在單車上的!

... buy ... to/for ... ?

以下哪兩句正確?
1. I want to buy a tie to my father.
2. I want to buy a tie for my father.
3. I want to give a tie to my father.
4. I want to give a tie for my father.

正確答案是第二及第三句!
在中文的文法而言, 我們會說 "買.......給......" 或 "送......給......" 。中文的一個"給"字, 轉換成英文時, 就要適當地放上 "for" 或 "to"了!
所以我們要好好記著正確的介詞用法,不要弄錯了:
"buy (something) for (someone)"
"give (something) to (someone)"
順帶一提, "for" 也有 "為了" 的意思。

下次當父母生日時, "Please buy a cake for them!" 或 "Please give a hug to them!"

上一次談到 "buy" 的過去式是 "bought", 那你又知道 "teach" 的過去式是什麼嗎?

在所有不規則動詞中, 有兩個的過去式是 -aught, 要牢記啊!
teach -> taught
catch -> caught

記著不要把 -ought 及 -aught 混淆了!
